I went to Nurneberg, Germany last week to see the almighty Ronnie James Dio live - and it really rocked!
For those who do not know: Dio and Tracy G are no more - the new and old man at the guitar is Craig Goldy (from "Dream Evil" 1987). This is actually quite a cool thing as I really disliked Tracy's playing live and on the albums, so I was happy that Dio finally had a "real" guitar man back on stage ... and so was the crowd!
The "Forum" is Nurneberg is a 1000-people-hall, as there was actually nearly no promotion in Germany I was surprised that around 700 people showed up at the concert. Support was a local act called Vacancy - no bones about it ... RJD actually only does four shows in Germany - two festivals and two small headlining ones, alltogether more a warm up for the new lineup than a real tour I would judge!
The setlist was phenomenal, in hopefully more or less correct order they played the following songs:
Intro, Evilution, Straight Through The Heart, Don't Talk To Strangers, Holy Diver, Rock'n'Roll Children, Heaven And Hell, Mob Rules, Stargarzer/ Guitar Solo/Catch The Rainbow/Stargazer, King Of Rock'n'Roll, I Speed At Night, encores: We Rock, Last In Line, Rainbow In The Dark, Neon Knights, Man On The Silver Mountain/Long Live R'n'R/Man On The Silver Mountain plus various guitar solo here and there and one drum solo, I might haved missed one or two tracks, maybe "Stand Up And Shout" was played too ...
The crowd went really nuts, Dio had to return for THREE encores, all were really excited. I went to Nurneberg with four friends of mine and we all were excited to have seen Dio live, even it meaned driving 1000 km through Germany and spending a couple of bucks plus staying awake the whole night ...
Little big man is back!!!
Bye
