It was a nice surprise, this Dio summer mini-tour. And the show in Nuernberg probably one of the best - not a festival gig with thousands of people, it took place in a small hall with about 20*20m room for the audience. Ronnie said that he likes concerts like this more than big events. The club was full, although probably not sold out (maybe 500 - 700 people or more, hard to say, but my ticket was number 604).
The show was opened by support band called Vacancy. Well, not a bad choice. Solid hard rock music. Four singing musicians. Good reactions from the audience.
Dio haven't made many changes in their setlist since the last tour, so it was still something like "The best of Ronnie James Dio 1975 - 1985" with only one song from the nineties.
About the band - Scott Warren, Larry Dennison and Simon Wright did a good work, but Craig Goldie was excellent. He made the songs sound better than on Dio last live release, imo. People were very satisfied with him.
And Ronnie? Let's say that he was in his usual form. Great, strong voice that will never get old. And I could see that he is an unforgetable performer too.
The audience was one of the best I've ever seen and the band seemed to be satisfied.
So, after my first Dio concert I like them more than ever before. They really rocked. Hope to see'em again soon. Fantastic show!
Here's the setlist (maybe the order of songs is not 100% correct):
(now the band left the stage for a few seconds with lights still on; i don't know if the following two songs were meant as an encore)
